A prayer for Casey Johnson
[Elder’s Note: Casey Johnson, heiress, diabetic, and lesbian (or bisexual) passed away last week. Her “fiance’ “, Tila Tequila asked via Twitter for people to pray for Casey. Not being adept at prayers for the dead, and not being sure about whether I will ever be so, I have asked my friend Episcopalianated (who is Anglo-Catholic) to offer a prayer for Casey. I have no idea (one way or the other) whether or not Casey’s sins have been covered by the blood of Jesus, though clearly she was dealing with sin issues. ]
I posted this prayer when Edward Kennedy died, but it’s appropriate for someone whose manner of life gave at least some indication of Christian influence and where there is a hope that the grace of final repentance may have been present, even if we don’t really know.
And here it is:
O God, Whose property it is ever to have mercy and to spare, we beseech Thee on behalf of the soul of Thy servant Casey whom Thou hast called out of this world; look upon her with pity and let her be conducted by the holy angels to paradise, her true country. Grant that she who believed in Thee and hoped in Thee may be admitted to eternal joys through the pardon and remission of all her sins. Through Jesus Christ, Thy Son, our Lord, Who with Thee and the Holy Ghost liveth and reigneth world without end. Amen.
V. Eternal rest give unto her, O Lord.
R. And let perpetual light shine upon her.
